About the trip

Five days in a country that carries one of Africa's most living and misunderstood traditions.

The Voodoo Festival — held on January 10th each year in Ouidah — is not a performance. It is a national day of celebration for Vodoun, a spiritual tradition that originated here in the Kingdom of Dahomey and traveled across the Atlantic with the slave trade. Millions of people across West Africa, Brazil, Haiti, and the Caribbean trace their spiritual roots to this coastline.

This trip puts you in the middle of it. Guided ceremonies, the Temple of Pythons, the Route des Esclaves leading to the Door of No Return — sites that carry real historical weight. Combined with Cotonou street life, local food, and the warmth of Beninese hospitality, it is an experience that will stay with you.

What makes it special

January 10th is the peak of the festival — drumming, ceremonial dress, processions, and ancestral offerings fill the streets of Ouidah. You will be there on the day, not the day after.
